Can PM Gonsalves be trusted with the national hero process? (3/22/2016)

The process of selecting, ratification, legislation and conferring upon another the status of a national hero is a serious undertaking, in my opinion, the level of the seriousness of this process is comparable with that of a constitutional review. This is so for the simple fact a national hero must be a person whose life story is a ready catalyst of inspiration, which will aid as a source of motivation for generations to come; a life, which will cause people from all nationalities to marvel at such an incredible story of consistent personal sacrifice, heroism and selflessness.

You see there are event heroes, there are folk heroes and there are national heroes. A national hero must first develop legend status in his era and generation. An individual’s infatuated admiration with a person’s life and work does not qualify a person for national hero status. We must be careful that we don’t use a system, just because it is there or, like the Argyle International Airport, we are going to get a national hero because other countries have one.

I am also of the opinion that there must be a set system that must be put into place, which is void of politicians that gives the community the right to vote for the enacting of a national hero, this is not a responsibility of any politician to take upon himself to get the process going, seeking out candidates and following the process through. But there must be an independently established process that is known, and consists of several stages that must be successfully completed, and the entire community must be allowed to participate in this process.

The process must first confer upon any prospective national hero the status of an honourable folk hero or something like that, to get the process rolling. This should be done by one generation and if in later years the people of another generation see fit they can confer the national hero status upon that honourable folk hero.

Recently Prime Minister Ralph E. Gonsalves requested the National Hero Advisory Committee (NHAC) to make recommendations for national heroes. We must ask and find an answer to this question: does Prime Minster Ralph E. Gonsalves have the moral or other right to lead the process of appointing, ratifying and or legislating a national hero in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Until the process of appointing a national hero is changed, the qualities of a political leader who feel the needs to visit the issue of national hero must be one with an impeccable track record. Such political head must be a rational and competent person, who has demonstrated a consistently high level of statesmanship, patriotism and personal dignity, which automatically disqualifies Prime Minister Ralph E. Gonsalves.

Prime Minister Gonsalves is a man who has been covered in disrepute even in his youth, and that character followed him into adulthood and only got worse when he was entrusted with the running of the political affairs of our once blessed land St Vincent and the Grenadines. Unfortunately for his character, it seems like the investiture of political power went to his head, with the discredit of having rape and sexual assault allegations made against him.

He have been responsible for insulting and humiliating name calling, he has even used racial slurs to describe his political associate Mr Arnhim Eustace, he has venomously insulted his constituents as well as called them derogative names, he has made lewd and offensive gestures to constituents. Nepotism is one of his favourite practices; as is seen in the appointment of his cousin Julian Francis, who has never won an election to a senior ministerial post; his son Camillo Gonsalves to a diplomatic post and head of the ministry of foreign affairs and the list goes on.

Ralph Gonsalves has broken the confidence of his parliamentary and prime ministerial trust and indulged in nothing short of what US law would consider insider trading, by using information he obtained in the capacity of minister of finance and prime minister to secure more than one million dollars of his mother’s monies from a failing financial institution: The Building and Loan. Gonsalves’ actions almost secured the collapse of the institution.

This is a man who has never done anything just because it is the right thing to do; everything no matter how harmless comes full circle and was done with the intent and only objective to benefit himself and his broken legacy.

So when Prime Minister Gonsalves came out and said that the National Hero Advisory Committee has forwarded some names to him to consider, you will have to think carefully about that. Ralph Gonsalves is a man who does not take recommendations, advise, counsel or instructions from anyone. So when he said the NHAC made recommendations, what he is really saying is he sent a few names for the NHAC to rubber stamp.

One will also have to ask what motivated Gonsalves to have the NHAC rubber stamp three politicians and one outstanding educator for national hero status. Well I have a sneaking suspicion that Ralph E Gonsalves is trying to clear the way to one day being declare a national hero. I will say this; there are two things that Ralph E. Gonsalves, and his generation after him, will never see, and that is his and their own funeral and his name ever associated with the word hero.

He may go down in the history of St Vincent and the Grenadines and the world as a national predator, for in the near future it is my intent to get a full investigation team to look into the extent of Ralph E. Gonsalves predatory exploits. After the investigation phase, there will be a team of psychologists from a leading university to study the effects of Ralph Gonsalves’ predatory exploit had on the victims’ psyche, their level of productivity and on the productivity of St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Ralph Gonsalves’ behaviour and the impact of his sexual exploits will be the source of many psychological discoveries.

As a matter of fact, I would like to take this opportunity to give to Ralph E. Gonsalves the National Predator status right now.
