Calvin Glasgow an exceptional Police Officer - By Chief: Strong-Blood.

I will like to recognize the contribution of a very interesting police officer, by offering a tribute to Calvin Glasgow also known as Gold teeth; while recognizing a very cool dude by the name of Michael “Scooper” Revierre

I can never really say that Gold teeth and I were good friends, but we shared a mutual respect and a good working relationship. Officer Glasgow was one of, if not the sharpest dressed and well-presented police officer I have ever seen.

As I recall, from observing him when he paraded his men at the Traffic Department, especially in the morning inspection, before the officers go out to face the public, preforming various traffic duties, he took personal appearance very serious; and he always reinforced such. Ninety percent of the police officer who worked under Calvin Glasgow’s supervision, who did not take pride in their appearance, learned to do so and carry such pride with them all through their career.

There are many police officers, who did not agree with Gold Teeth’s style of policing, and an even larger cross-section of the community, did not only disagreed, with his method of policing; they dread an encounter with him. Because such may resulted in the notice of intended prosecution and later an appointment with the court to address some traffic or other violation, they may have committed.

Calvin Gold Teeth Glasgow was known as the police who don’t give breaks. As a result, of officer Calvin Gold Teeth Glasgow’s fearless and no nonsense style of policing; he had some confrontations with some elected officials, who at times, though they were above the law. There were occasions, when Gold Teeth, had to report to the Commissioner of Police officer, to address reports that were made against him, by some of these simpleton politicians.

Another thing that is admirable about Gold Teeth is, of all the complaint and confrontation he had during his career, there was never an allegation of dishonesty, corruption or the likes, levied against him. as a matter of fact, when the Ralph Gonsalves Administration tried to punish Gold Teeth, for doing his job (upsetting the apple cart), by transferring him to the Licensing department. Their intent was to create a white elephant in a pink room syndrome.

However; like no one else could, “Gold Teeth” made himself busy and useful at that department; which resulted in Gold Teeth, uncovering a corruption ring; which really frightened the big boys. This led to the quick re-transfer, and Teeth was sent back onto the streets where he picked up from where he left off. The Gonsalves administration became afraid that Gold Teeth probing would have exposed their dirty dealings.

There was only but a few people, who understood why Gold Teeth was so strict and why he was so thorough and diligent in the execution of his duties. And although many people, including some police officers though that Gold Teeth was just being spiteful and malicious he was not.

I will share with you, something most people, do not know about Gold teeth that may put into perspective; why he took his policing so serious. It will be important to note, I cannot remember the exact year or the date in history this event took place, but it was more than twenty plus years ago.

it was a beautiful Sunny Saturday Morning, about 1:30 P.M, and I was taking my leisurely walk to church. The Kingstown Seventh Day Adventist Church. On reaching the vicinity of the Coreas Trading Ltd., on Back Street. I saw a crowd of people gathered on the sidewalk, opposite side of Coreas Trading Limited in the vinicity of The S.V.G Building and Loan Co. They (the crow) were shouting at Gold teeth, words such as, “leave the man! let him enjoy himself!” while referring to the officer as: “power hunger!” and “show off!”

This was before Calvin Gold Teeth Glasgow had earned his reputation that immortalized him in at least three different calypsos and he became the nightmare that he was, to traffic violators especially Minibus operators.

The person who the on lookers wanted Officer Glasgow to leave alone was Michael “Scooper” Revierre of Old Montrose. Now it was understandable why the public came out in support of Scooper against the police. Scooper, was one of the friendliest, down to earth people I have ever met.

In my opinion, Scooper was the male version of the delightful, beloved local and regional Beauty queen: Donna Young. His beloved personality was magnified because he was also a local daredevil, who was fearless on the motorcycle. He was willing to try anything that came to his mind and anything that was suggested to him, on his motorcycle.

This earned him a folk hero status, especially within the biking community, reaching heights like people like OB and Dennis Murray – I can remember as children, me and my friends at school and in the neighborhood, would argue with each other; for the rights to be call Dennis Murray while we played.

Everyone loved Scooper and like the character Fonzie in happy days; he had no hang up, just a decent fellow, from a good family.

I can remember after school, spending time with my, then best friend Winston Franklyn AKA “number 10” (God bless his soul) repairing tires at the St. Vincent Automotive Corporation gas station; which was located on Bentic Square. Scooper often come to the Gas Station to refill his tank.

Although he was just a bit older than us and was a very popular guy, he will take the time to answer any question we had, about his 1000 cc Kawasaki Ninja Motor Bike. He will even perform tricks for us, on request; because that was the kind of Guy he was; a people person. We were not friends, but from his willingness and friendly interactions with us, we sure feel like we were friends with Scooper.

Hence the reason the crow came down on Officer Glasgow, to let the young Icon be. I am sure that Calvin Gold Teeth Glasgow was also an admirer of Scooper. But he was doing his sworn duty to protect and to serve.

I did not join the crowd in anti-Gold Teeth chants, but was wise enough to understand, that the officer was within his rights to ensure the safety even of, the skilled daredevil. So officer Glasgow warned Scooper and he went on his way, tearing up the street, in his usual style, with no disrespect to Officer Glasgow but to the delight of the people, whose support had just saved him from the police.

It will be important to say that although Scooper was a daredevil, he was new to this bike and the speed capacity of the one thousand Kawasaki Ninja and on hindsight we can all agree; the roads of Kingstown, was not the safest road to open up, the full speed of such a bike on. But Michael “Scooper” Revierre had done this safely hundreds of times.

I had returned from Church and I was just about to walk into the gate of my homestead in Rose Place, also known as Bottom Tow; when I heard the powerful bark of the Ninja Kawasaki one thousand motorbike, in motion; the sound came from the Bentick Square area, where scooper normally open up on his motorcycle. The sound of the motorcycle was very distinct because; this was the only Ninja and at the time most powerful motorcycle on the island.

I could remember smiling and saying to myself: Scooper is tearing it up again. Then suddenly, I heard a crashing sound of an impact. I did not worry, because it was Scooper riding the motorcycle. In my young mind, there was no accident that Scooper could not get away from.

Then in seconds the news reached that Scooper had crashed into a car and he was badly hurt. Like many Vincentian who were in the vicinity I ran from home to the scene of the accident, hoping only for the best outcome, I will not relate what I say, however later I learned that Michael Scooper Revierre died from the injuries he sustained from the accident.

Unfortunately for Calvin Gold Teeth Glasgow, he had to attend the scene of the fatal accident on duty. I could remember seeing Calvin Gold Teeth Glasgow at the scene, trying his best to hide his emotions, however; I knew this incident moved the young officer, and although he did not say it. I am sure that he wished he had done something that could have save this great young man’s live.

In my opinion, this was what triggered Calvin Gold Teeth Glasgow into becoming the kind of stern, no nonsense police officer he became. One that raise policing to a standard of excellence.

Calvin Glasgow was at the funeral on traffic duty, Scooper’s mother, being the graceful woman she was, suspected that her son’s death would have affected the young traffic officer, try to put him at ease and made him promised her, that he will never be detoured by the negative urging of a crowd, and allow anyone to walk away without his best intervention. It was at this very moment in history that Officer Calvin Glasgow disappeared as a police and in Glasgow's place Gold Teeth was born.

So when member of the public especially Andrew Bardu, was fight Gold Teeth while he executed his duty, Calvin Gold Teeth Glasgow was literally fighting, with him, to save his life and the life of his passengers, and when the passengers in the mini-bus cursed-out Calvin Gold Teeth Glasgow for interrupting their journey to their homes, where they will sit in front of the TV watching: Days of our life and the bold and the Beautiful; officer Gold Teeth Glasgow was taking abuse from his abusers in order to ensuring they arrive home safely.

This was one of the reasons, whether I was on duty driving the police vehicle or on the street instructing a student driver trying to earn an extra dollar, and I see Calvin Gold Teeth Glasgow stop a Mini-bus, I will pull the vehicle over or request the student driver to pull aside just in case, someone try to take the liberty to physically engaged Officer Calvin Godl Teeth Glasgow to render some assistance.
Calvin Glasgow an exceptional Police Officer

Anyone can be a police officer, but it takes an individual with a certain type of metal to be consistent every day, knowing that he is going to encounter several unpleasant confrontations each day. I have no doubt that Calvin Gold Teeth Glasgow is indeed a man of strength and character and one hell of a police officer. Good job Gold Teeth.

So Now Gold teeth have come to the end of his police career. I say congratulation to Calvin Glasgow for a job well done. I will also say this, Calvin is still a healthy energetic man, It is a shame that the powers that be in St. Vincent and the Grenadines did not see the value of utilizing Calvin Gold Teeth Glasgow and Sydney Gold Teeth James in areas of training. It is a shame to see the wealth of accumulative experience between these two men both of whom have excelled in policing is allowed to sit idly by, while the force is falling apart.

Please be warned; this is not a tribute this is a true Story.
